FAQs
Is it cheaper to buy or build a large shed?
Whether it’s cheaper to buy or build a large shed depends on various factors, such as material costs, labour, and long-term maintenance. At Springfield Steel Buildings, we offer a range of steel shed kits designed for easy self-assembly, saving you significant construction costs.
Our pre-drilled steel components allow for quick installation without the need for specialised equipment or labour, making purchasing a steel shed from us a cost-effective solution. Building a shed from scratch may seem cheaper initially, but material sourcing, construction errors, and long-term maintenance can quickly add up. Our steel sheds offer long-lasting durability with minimal upkeep, ensuring you get the best value for your investment.
What’s the biggest size shed without a permit?
The maximum size of shed you can build without a permit varies depending on local regulations. Generally, in the UK, sheds up to 15 square meters can be installed without planning permission, provided they meet certain conditions, such as being single-storey and not located in front of the principal elevation of your home.
At Springfield Steel Buildings, we specialise in providing bespoke steel sheds and can help you determine the best size and specifications based on your local requirements. If you’re unsure about permits, our team is here to assist and provide guidance tailored to your location.
What is the largest shed without council approval?
Typically, in the UK, you can build a shed up to 30 square meters without council approval as long as the structure is intended for domestic use, takes up less than 50% of the garden area, and is not used for living accommodation. The shed should also not exceed 2.5 meters in height if within two meters of a boundary.
Our large steel sheds at Springfield Steel Buildings are designed with these regulations in mind, and we offer custom solutions to ensure compliance. If you require a larger structure, we can provide clear-span buildings and assist you with any necessary approval processes.
What size shed without planning permission?
In most UK locations, a shed can be built without planning permission if it’s under 2.5 meters in height (if placed within two meters of a boundary) and the total area doesn’t exceed 15 square meters for standard domestic use. However, for sheds between 15 and 30 square meters, planning permission is generally not required if it’s more than a meter from the property boundary and doesn’t impact living accommodation.
At Springfield Steel Buildings, our steel sheds are designed with these specifications in mind, and we provide expert advice to ensure your shed meets local planning regulations. Plus, with our bespoke shed options, we can tailor the features of the design to your needs while ensuring compliance.
